Atlanta passed Northern Virginia in 2026 as the biggest data center construction market in the country, the Port of Savannah is one of the fastest growing container ports in the nation, and Georgia's poultry, row crop, and timber industries are among the largest in the Southeast. Contractors, carriers, and farms here are buying equipment, and Georgia's tax rules on that equipment are different from the states around it.

We place Georgia files with lenders that fund from Atlanta to Savannah to Valdosta. Options in 24 to 48 hours on a soft inquiry, for start-ups and established operations.

Sales tax and income tax on equipment in Georgia

Sales tax on equipmentState rate 4 percent, combined 7 to 9 percent; Atlanta is 8.9 percent. Machinery that is necessary and integral to manufacturing is exempt. Farms use the GATE card to buy agricultural equipment and inputs tax free.
Trucks and trailersTitled motor vehicles pay a one-time 7 percent Title Ad Valorem Tax on fair market value instead of sales tax. On a lease, TAVT is charged on the lease payments. Trailers and off-road equipment are not titled and pay annual ad valorem tax instead.
Income taxGeorgia adopts the federal Section 179 limit but has never allowed bonus depreciation, so bonus is added back and the asset is depreciated under Georgia rules, for individuals and corporations.

Tax rules change and depend on your facts. Confirm with your accountant before relying on any of this.

About financing in Georgia

Equipment financing in Georgia is arranged through Land Tech Capital's network of third-party lenders and lessors. Land Tech Capital is a New York based commercial finance broker, not a lender, and does not hold a Georgia license. Your financing agreement will be with the lender or lessor, who provides any disclosures Georgia law requires. No fee is charged to you before funding, and we are paid by the lender when a deal closes.

Questions we get

How does Georgia TAVT work on a financed truck?

TAVT is a one-time 7 percent tax on the vehicle's fair market value, paid at titling instead of sales tax. Most programs let us include it in the financed amount.

Can a poultry farm finance equipment with the GATE exemption?

Yes. The GATE card removes sales tax on qualifying agricultural equipment, and the financing works the same way with a lower total.

Do you finance drayage tractors for Savannah?

Yes. Port drayage is a common Georgia file, new and used, based on time in business and credit.
